I bought this to test the ph of the soil where my blueberry bushes are, they need soil that is more acidic than our area has, so we have to amend the soil every year. This works great!!! I love having to only pop this into the soil and get a ph reading at any level down in the soil without having to dig up the dirt to get a sample down by the roots. And it can be reused over and over, not like the soil sample testers. And this gives you the temperature of the soil and if it is wet or dry down at any level as well. Definitely worth buying for me!!!

This is a really simple product to use. There are two buttons – one to switch to the soil pH tester and one to switch between celsius and farenheit. I compared the soil pH test results against some pH test strips I had and they matched, so this product will be my new go-to – much more convenient than strips.

I ordered this because I am terrible at keeping indoor plants alive. I either overwater them or underwater them every single time. I owned something similar to this in the past but misplaced it long ago and have killed many plants in the meantime. This one is much nicer than my old one as it measures not just how wet the soil is but also how much light the plant is getting and the pH of the soil. The only thing that confused me straight out of the box was that there¡¯s no power button. I found that if you press either of the buttons on the front of the control panel, it will turn on and then you can use it. Instructions are good in how thorough they are and they give explanations on how to read the LCD screen.
Overall, I¡¯m super happy with this and would order it again.

This tool is so helpful when figuring out where to plant things in the garden, and to keep up with them to be sure they’re getting what they need. This meter will tell you if the area gets enough sun, even when you’re not there to observe it. Plus you’ll know if if the area is getting enough water deep enough for root development. The PH meter is helpful to decide if soil additions are needed for a particular type of plant to thrive. Most of us garden without too much thought, but a little extra information will really help. Gift it to the gardener in your life, and maybe they’ll give you some tomatoes!

This is my first electronic moister meter I have used, and it is so much easier to use and see than the cheaper type I have been using for years that was so hard to see because of the small print and having to get to eye level with the meter to see the reading from the pointer, you can tilt the lit display head backward so it is so much easier to read even in low light or no light when.
You will need 4 AAA batteries because they are not included.
The one thing I do not like is the meter stays on for about 5 mins, but the light only stays on for about 1 minute which is good, but I do not like the battery usage of the meter staying on for 4mins longer but not a huge deal.
You can switch from moisture light and the heat test by simply pressing the PH button to test the Ph and light level and all of the test the meter provides are essential to a good plant growth and comes with a manual showing the proper Ph levels for multiple plants.

For the most part, the readings were fairly accurate and somewhat consistent, but there were several times I had to retake the reading because it was way off. This is the most impressive garden meter I’ve ever seen. I’ve used 3 or 4 over my life and have either had them die on me or give such weird readings (like not recognizing the light from the sun or lack thereof) that they became useless. This one is absolutely fantastic straight out of the box. The readings are immediate. I mean, immediate. I’ve never used a digital version, only ones with the dials that ping back and forth like an odometer. I will never go back after this. Absolutely recommend.

This is the only digital soil meter on the market. All others utilize a magnetically operated needle, that swings in front of 3-to-5 scales. As a result, the user gets rough estimates instead of actual numbers.

It is also one of the few that requires battery power to operate. An electric charge is emitted into the soil and is received in the probe. A circuit board measures the tiny changes and reports the results in digital form. Many competing devices use no batteries. I wonder how their diagnoses work without electricity?

I took the meter to task on the first day. The initially readings were off. AMBIEN LIGHT measured 0, although the meter was under a grow lamp. SOIL MOISTURE measured 95% – very wet, although the dirt was only moist.
.
After a “break in period” of one day, I tested again on the second. The features proved accurate. On the TEMPERATURE feature, I measured room air. The temperature was 1F higher than my oven thermometer and room thermostat. . . . Excellent!
.
To test the PH feature. I wet a face towel with water. It achieved a 7.1 reading – neutral. Water was neutral. . . . . Then, I wet a spot on the fabric with vinegar. The reading was 6.0 – slightly acid. Although vinegar was 4% acetic acid in distilled water, I expected a strongly acid reading. So, the PH feature was off by a half notch.

The MOISTURE feature worked to perfection. It measured the potted soil at 20% – dry. Examining the dirt, the moisture held the dirt in clumps, but it was relatively dry.

The AMBIEN LIGHT feature was good. Three grow lamps shined on my 10 juniper seedlings in pots. Each light source had a 100 watt grow bulb, with a 1700 lux rating. Putting the meter under one, it measured 2640 lux. With the added indirect light from the two other lamps, the reading seemed correct.

In the past month, I purchased three other competing soil meters and returned all. They tested grossly inaccurate, or some of their features were inoperative.

On this product, the features worked to perfection, except for PH – half correct. A second problem was missing the ability to measure FERTILITY. A third problem was the small text on the screen for TEMPERATURE and MOISTURE readings. They were very small. Other than these three shortcomings, I ranked it the best among the many soil meters available on Amazon.

I will say that the batteries do not last long I feel like this could be better with a rechargeable battery also as the thing takes 4 AAA batteries and is doesn’t come with em the other settings are a toss up the PH is good but when it gets to light and in the soil it never seems to read correctly.

I tried to get some better pictures of it showing different results, but my camera couldn¡¯t get the right angle on the lcd screen. Even easy and intuitive to use, button for switching between Celsius and Fahrenheit, another button for checking PH. On both you¡¯ll see moisture readings and light brightness in both a low, medium, high as well as a LUX reading. Easy to move from plant to plant and has a click angle position setting so you don¡¯t have to bend to read it, if using in pots at a lower level. Includes a nice informative instruction manual with a reference guide for various plants, it¡¯s 10 pages, but about the size of a standard business card, so be ready to read small print. Does what it¡¯s supposed to do AND does it good!

seems like a pretty good meter. have only used it for moisture reading at this point. only problem is the moisture reading section is super small. i literally had to put my reading glasses on to see it which is not the ideal way for me to water my plants. plus the device keeps turning off so i keep having to press one of the buttons to activate the screen which is a little helpful because then the light turns on and it helps with being able to read the display, but a little annoying that it’s a constant battle with pressing buttons and moving the display to the best angle to be able to see it. should have stuck with a basic meter, not digital.

Fall is the time of year I find indoor plants can be a little tricky. They need less water beginning around fall through winter and once I start sticking my finger in the soil a few times it’s hard to discern the moisture level in the subsequent plants. I recently picked up a similar product that didn’t use batteries…and didn’t work at all. This one is working as expected. Plus it has a soil temperature reading, which I didn’t see on other soil testers.
To test it out, I stuck this in a few plants, some I knew I had recently watered, and some more dry. The moisture readout seemed to be spot on to what I was expecting.
I then tested the temperature reading. I stuck my instant read kitchen thermometer into my plant, alongside this. The soil tester was 1 degree colder than the instant read, so I’ll consider that accurate. It did take about a minute before the temp settled, so a little longer than an instant read, but not a huge deal.
As for the other two measurements. Light readings were as expected, depending on the light level. I’m still not sure why you’d want this measurement, as it only tells you the light level at that moment. It’s not a reading over a span or time, so I’m not sure how useful that is. As for the soil pH. I don’t have a way to verify how accurate it is but it did give me different readings across all my plants. I’m going to assume that’s working.
It’s a nice device and I’m looking forward to getting some more use out of it come spring.

Two things I wish were different:
– While the head tilts, it would be even better if could tilt all the way to 90 degrees. Some of my plants grow in such a way that the tilt feature isn’t quite suitable.
– I really like the wet/dry percentages rather than just a rough analogue as it gives me more options as to when to water, but it would have nice if the display had an option to be larger as the font is tiny for those of us with less than great eyesight, and there’s a small issue with the screen – if the viewing angle isn’t perfect then the information is blurry.
Still, so far this unit is much better than the several others I’ve tried that have either failed (just stopped working) or broken (not well constructed).

I bought a different soil temperature thermometer, not knowing it had to be calibrated. Once calibrated, it needed to be done every 6 months. Not this one! I contacted the company, and they said it did not need calibration, so after inserting the batteries (4 ea. AAA) it was ready to go. I feel a digital thermometer will provide the most accurate results. I am applying a pre-emergent, and the soil temperature needs to be pretty consistently below 70 degrees or lower for several days, so a digital reading will be the most accurate in order for the pre-emergent to work as it should.

This is the first tool that measures the important levels for plants. The three I’m most interested is moisture level, soil temperature, and pH. Light level is interesting, but “there’s an app for that”, as they say.
I mention what I don’t like about it, not to complain, but hoping it helps in improving it. The two aspects that change the most are soil temp and moisture. On the display, however, these are shown in tiny type, and difficult to read with my 71 year old eyes. On the other hand, both the pH and light readings are very large type. My preference is to have this reversed, so I wouldn’t have difficulty reading the two most changeable levels, and only have to squint for the less changeable ones.

I have places in my yard where I have trouble growing normal grass. A lot of what I read online is to take a soil sample and measure the PH of your soil which will helps to understand what to add to get closer to that 7.0 reading. I ordered this device to help in that journey. What this does is tell you your PH, the soil temp and the moisture reading.
I unboxed it and it takes 4x AAA batteries, which are not included. I grabbed a set of batteries and I was off and running. Press a button and the unit turns on. Find a place or several and stick the soil reader into the ground. The top of the unit pivots for easy reading. The screens toggle by pressing the PH button. If you prefer metric, press the C/F button. I took two soil readings and discovered that my soil is alkaline. It¡¯s fall like weather where I live so the temperature reading took about a solid minute to settle on a temperature.
When I was finished, a press-and-hold on the C/F button turns the device off. I looked thru the manual and it explains each function enough if you¡¯ve never used one of these before. Overall, it does exactly what it¡¯s supposed to do. Once we get back to Spring like weather, I¡¯ll be using this a lot more to find out what our soil needs, so we can grow healthy grass again.

I can¡¯t get down on my knees any more to see readings at ground level fro straight-on displays. Tilting the meter¡¯s face up to read from above is a major benefit. Just remember to take the red cap off the fending the probe when taking a measurement otherwise your reading will always be 7.0!

Wonder why certain plants, especially vegetables and fruits won¡¯t grow well, likely it¡¯s a soil PH issue. Sometimes it¡¯s also difficult to gauge by sight how well your garden soil is keeping water as well.
This does it all for you.
I grabbed this late in the season. All I had left growing were some tomatoes and bell peppers. It reported PH levels I was happy with and showed me that one bed was draining moisture much quicker than the other two.
When I start again next year, this tool is going to help me grow more and bigger and better veggies!

This has worked well- the ph registers pretty much what a soil test indicates. Much more convenient for, say, transplanting blueberries and working out the soil ph. And it uses replaceable batteries so it won¡¯t simply die like cheaper versions. The tilt helps with readings, too.

I ordered this product for an elderly and foreign relative that is a gardener. She keeps plants out on her patio and doesn’t really have a proper garden, so I felt that having a tool like this would really help her tend to her plants better by offering her digital metrics that would give her an indicator as to what the plants needed. HOWEVER, what I didn’t anticipate was that this product might be too complex for someone who is old and/or from another culture. She struggled to understand the directions or remember how to read the meter and I had to be present to explain this item to her and help her use it. I am not saying this is an issue with the product itself or the manufacturer, BUT it might be helpful to keep in mind that this product might be better for someone who is younger and/or understands English, because someone who may be set in their ways might not be able to properly adapt well enough to enjoy this product. This is just a thought or a reminder for people who might be intending to buy this meter as a gift.

It has revolutionized how I manage the many different soils I am responsible for. And because of that value I gave it 5/5 stars even though the humidity’s number is nearly comical in how tiny the percentage of moisture readout is. I see now that I must break from reading numerical measurements and study the Water-Droplet pie-chart instead.
It¡¯s a shift that doesn¡¯t ruin anything, just a little clunky to have to shift from the large Ph & Temp numerical reading to Water droplet ¡°pie Chart¡± shading readings. The percentage is there just smol. It¡¯s easier to read it at night, lol, because of the back light.
I¡¯m an old dog that just wants to complain about learning.
With all that said. It¡¯s a great product. Buy it. You will be glad.

Learned there is phenomenon when comparing the soil ph levels to runoff levels. This device needs electrical conductivity to measure. As the soil dries, electrons can’t move as much, which then shows a higher ph than is accurate. I’ve got some 6.0 ph plants that show 7.4 by the time there ready for the next watering. Even though once watered, they show 5.9-6.0 again through runoff.
Dryness:
Has been very useful. And appears oddly accurate. Just remember it’s measurement point is about 10″ down.
Temps:
Appear accurate compared to known air temps.
Light:
Wouldn’t trust it, havnt tested it, but I can’t see it being better than an actual par meter. Besides the fact that light reading “at soil level” is useless.
Screen:
Small viewing angle. Will need to be in a place you can easily see ‘straight on’. At 20% angle it’s impossible to read.

Have been using the soil meter for 1 day in the pot holding my gardenia tree. Put 4 fresh AAA batteries in it as directed. Looked fine for a while, now it¡¯s constantly, rapidly, blinking red. Nothing in the manual addresses this alert. I took the batteries out and tested each one, they all test good. Just in case, I put 4 new straight-out-of-the-wrapper Energizer batteries in and it still blinks red. There¡¯s no way to ask a question of other users as one can with similar Amazon items. Hate to send it back! Anyone know why it¡¯s blinking red? Obviously an alert of some kind, but what?

DEVICE DESIGN: It’s very user friendly and easy to use and read. I love that the head is adjustable so you can face it upright and see the readings easier.
HOWEVER I have to say the stick on it is quite a bit bigger than a normal meter and also more blunt(picture). It makes me a little nervous for root damage especially on small plants as it’s necessary to test multiple spots in soil for accuracy.
MOISTURE: The moisture meter part of it is accurate and tested against 3 other moisture meters(picture)
TEMPERATURE/HUMIDITY: Seems to fairly accurate!
PH: All my plants were reading in the normal ranges but would have to test against an actual PH test.
LIGHT: This part of the product is bogus. If it’s not right in a window it reads 0. I tested it against my light meter to show the comparison. It’s reading 0 and the light meter is reading 200 something.
OVERALL: I bought it when it was on sale but I think price is pretty fair. My light meter was 36 bucks in itself so for a device with multiple functions the price is decent. It’s a nice device overall. Would be nice is stick was smaller and had a sharper point and wish the light part worked(would willing to pay more money if it did) but I definitely enjoy it!!!

The bright LED screen is what I like most about this gadget. The screen is bright enough to read even during very sunny days. The build quality is pretty solid and feels heavy. As for functionality, the tester accurately displays the temperature, PH level, moisture and sunlight. There’s an option to switch between measuring systems using the simple 2 button design. I was a little confused on how to turn this tool off but it does turn off on its own. Just as a reminder, don’t leave it in the soil. Remove the tester after testing has been done. I would have preferred a leave in option but this way might extend the accuracy and functionality of the tool.

At first, I noticed a few quirks with the readings, especially for ambient light and moisture levels. But after giving it a little time, it started giving me much more accurate results.
